It is time for us to place our order for the upcoming poultry growing season. The instability of the (chicken) feed market, along with all other farm inputs, is making it very difficult for us to justify the cost required to grow and process broiler chickens and hold them for individual resale at a yearly projected price/pound. As a result, if we are to continue to grow our organic pastured chickens, we needed to make some changes. Below is an outline of the program we implemented 2 years ago and will continue with for 2010.
We are now taking orders for our 1st batch of "The Chicken Club.” You must join at least the bronze membership ($15/year to enter the farm) in order to purchase. See “Memberships” under the “Purchasing” tab. The Gold membership gives you additional savings on the chickens you purchase.
We have ordered 125 chicks, which will be ready to process on or about March 24th. More information will be communicated to those that sign up via e-mail closer to the processing date. Based on the quoted feed price today, and the quoted processing price to process 125 chickens, these chickens will sell for $8.00/lb. We have gone ahead and purchased the chicks and the feed at the quoted price from our organic feed mill, and we have locked in the processing price with our processor.
- Order in advance. (Supply is limited)
- Pre-order 5 or 10 chickens.
- At the time of pre-ordering, you will pay a deposit of approximately ½ - based on 5 or 10 chickens at an average of 3.5 pound/chicken - which is $65.00 for 5 birds and $125.00 for 10 birds. Your final payment will be based on actual weight of 5 or 10 birds.
- Pick up all 5 or 10 chickens at designated time in March.
- Pay balance in full for 5 or 10 chickens at the time of pick up.
This will guarantee you 5 or 10 chickens from this first batch and lock you into the $8.00/lb. price.
Future batches may vary, based on feed and processing costs. No chickens will be held in our retail store for individual sale. All chickens that are not pre-sold to Chicken Club members are already reserved by the restaurants we supply, thus, supplies are limited for each batch.
